INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS

Aunt Ana Shelter

Um lar provisório, um cuidado permanente.

O Abrigo Tia Ana é um serviço de acolhimento institucional voltado para crianças e adolescentes de 0 a 18 anos que, por diversas razões, precisaram ser temporariamente afastados de suas famílias.

Description

Here, every child finds protection, care and the hope of a new beginning.

Our mission Our mission is clear and urgent: to guarantee temporary shelter with full protection, until it is possible to return to family life or to be placed in a substitute family, in accordance with the Statute of Children and Adolescents (Art. 101).

More than offering shelter, we seek to rebuild stories.

What we do

On average, we welcome 16 children and adolescents per month in situations of abandonment, neglect or violation of rights. Our work is:

  • Ensure care, protection and affection;
  • Prevent the worsening of situations of violence and vulnerability;
  • Reestablish family and community ties;
  • Promote social coexistence and access to rights;
  • Coordinate with the social assistance, health, education and justice networks.

Real challenges, urgent demands

Our daily lives are marked by profound challenges. The shortage of specialized professionals, especially in the area of mental health, staff turnover and the complexity of the cases handled require constant preparation and structure. We often face emergency situations without agile response mechanisms, which compromises the well-being of children.

Furthermore, the stories that reach us are sometimes devastating. Like that of a girl of just 9 years old who, after witnessing her mother's death, was the one who asked her neighbors for help. Today, with four diagnosed comorbidities (ASD, ADHD, ODD and mental retardation), she has already been rejected three times – once by her own family and twice by families on the adoption list.

Stories like this remind us that welcoming is more than just sheltering: it is offering emotional support, listening and dignity, even in the face of so much pain.
